چکیده

GIS is becoming an essential tool for utility companies, especially water companies, which have found an excellent way to manage and assess their assets. This paper presents an ArcView extension called AvEPA, which is a customized application oriented to the task of water network modeling. AvEPA is capable of simulating, analyzing and retrieving the actual network status under certain conditions using an integration of the widely used EPANET engine. In addition to this, a new functionality has been developed to allow the final user to calibrate the network model by means of a genetic algorithm module that works seamlessly along with the extension. The final result is a fully calibrated water network model derived from the GIS database and ready to be used in decision making issues.

ANALYSIS AND DESIGN OF WATER DISTRIBUTION SYSTEMS VIA COLLIDING BODIES OPTIMIZATION

This paper describes the application of the recently developed metaheuristic algorithm for simultaneous analysis, design and optimization of Water Distribution Systems (WDSs). In this method, analysis is carried out using Colliding Bodies Optimization algorithm (CBO). The CBO is a population-based search approach that imitates nature’s ongoing search for better solutions. Also, design and cost ...

BIG BANG – BIG CRUNCH ALGORITHM FOR LEAST-COST DESIGN OF WATER DISTRIBUTION SYSTEMS

The Big Bang-Big Crunch (BB–BC) method is a relatively new meta-heuristic algorithm which inspired by one of the theories of the evolution of universe. In the BB–BC optimization algorithm, firstly random points are produced in the Big Bang phase then these points are shrunk to a single representative point via a center of mass or minimal cost approach in the Big Crunch phase. In this paper, the...

Evaluation of Agricultural Water Distribution and Delivery Systems from the Viewpoints of Adequacy, Efficiency and Equity (Case Study: Irrigation Network of Roodasht, Isfahan)

The main purpose of the study is the operational simulation of main irrigation canal and evaluation of water delivery and distribution locally, regionally and overall using adequacy, efficiency, and equity indicators and “Desirability of water delivery and distribution” indicator. To achieve this goal, the hydrodynamic model of Roodasht irrigation network’s main canal was developed. The results...

Intelligent Geographic Information Systems ( IGIS ) and surface water modeling

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are emerging as major spatial data handling tools for natural resources inventory and management. For simulation model applications to surface water related problems, a GIS can serve as a powerful, interactive, and graphics oriented data platform and user environment. However, prior to utilizing available data and models, analysis of the problem's informatio...
